UCLA Student Conduct Process
Most Common Resolution Paths
Student is referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
Resolution 1
Student accepts responsibility for violation(s) of the Student Conduct Code: Assigned Dean determines Sanction.
- If Sanction is Deferred Suspension, Suspension, Deferred Dismissal or Dismissal, student may appeal the sanction to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
- Decision of Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs is final.
Resolution 2
Student does not accept responsibility for violation(s) of the Student Conduct Code. Assigned Dean completes a review that meets the Standard of Proof for a violation.
- Assigned Dean refers case to Student Conduct Committee for a Hearing.*
- Student Conduct Committee holds a Hearing.
- Hearing report sent to the Dean of Students with the findings from the Panel and any recommended sanctions from the Assigned Dean (if sanctions are applicable).
- Dean of Students issues final decision regarding the alleged violations and any sanctions (if sanctions are applicable).
- Student may submit a written appeal to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. If no appeal is submitted, the Dean of Students decision is final.
- Decision of Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs is final.
*A student may accept responsibility for a violation of the Student Conduct Code any time after a referral is made to the Student Conduct Committee, but before the Hearing has taken place. Additionally, if new information is provided to the Assigned Dean that would determine the incident no longer has sufficient information for a referral to Hearing, the Assigned Dean may withdraw the referral and close the case.
Resolution 3
Student does not accept responsibility for violation(s) of the Student Conduct Code. Assigned Dean completes a review and considers the incident information insufficient to proceed further.
